Roosevelt Island in the Fall

One of my go-to places in the city (although technically in Virginia) is Roosevelt Island.  It's super easy and quick for us to get to and it's fun to explore this little island in the Potomac River.  I've written up our previous visits in the Winter and Spring.  On Black Friday, the boys and I drove out first thing in the morning and decided to take the longest trail around the island.  We were treated to some beautiful views of the river and the Kennedy Center.  There were a lot of downed trees, probably as a result of Sandy, that blocked the trails so they presented fun challenges for us to get around.  We were rewarded by the long boardwalk, where we stopped at a few of the benches to kick off our boots and enjoy the sun.  Next nice weather day, I'll pack a picnic.
