When DD Is Napping

In the last 6 months, BB's artistic skills have taken off.  He's never been too interested in arts and crafts projects, you know, things where you follow the directions to make it look the way it's supposed to.  What he really enjoys is drawing.  He uses crayons and oil pastels but he got to a point where he started complaining about the lack of sharpness and precision.  He much prefers fine tip pens or a nice set of color pencils.  We go through tons of sketch books and drawing paper.  All of his pictures have stories.

C and I have discussed whether we should enroll him in art classes.  But even a simple question like this ends up being complicated.  Like I said, he doesn't enjoy structured art projects so I worry that a class that forces him to use certain media he dislikes, or to draw things he is indifferent about, will be a waste of time, and worse, will tamp out his interest in art.  As with many hard things, we've kicked it down the road to consider at a later time.

These days I try to remember to bring along a sketchpad and markers or pencils wherever we go.  Totally besides the point but I love how BB chose to use the gold pencil!
