Spring Break 2011 - Day 7

This is how we spent our final full day here in OBX.  In the morning we rented a Jeep and followed a guide to the 4x4 only area of Carova.  Our house is the last of the few houses on the road before the road ends and the 4x4 area begins.  We drove around the area looking for wild Mustangs that roam the beach.  The boys were sad when they realized they wouldn't be petting or riding the horses but they thoroughly enjoyed driving on the beach and the very bumpy drive.

Later in the day we went to the CAMA sound boardwalk at Heritage Park.  I'm loving these raised boardwalk trails in the Outer Banks which makes nature walks easy even for the youngest ones.  We spent some time soaking in the sun and then went for some last minute shopping which yielded (loud) toy guns and t-shirts.  At dinner, we ran into another family that we had seen the day before and the boys spent most of the time "shooting" the older girls who were great sports about the whole thing.

Normally we would have headed for home but being how it was our last night here, we went to a toy store instead.  They each picked out a set of Legos and a book.  We were fully an hour past bedtime, but hey, we're on vacation.

We've had an incredible time this week at the beach.  It always feels so indulgent to spend this much time with the boys without the interruption of work, school and activities.
