Food + Art

As much as BB and DD love to play together, sometimes one wants to do something and the other doesn't.  Saturday after the fesitval, DD wanted to go out again but BB didn't.  So BB and I stayed in and I let him help me with dinner.  He perched on a stool at the counter and watched me cut and pour and stir.  He was so into that he asked for his play stove and some cooking utensils and a crate of play food.  Pretty soon we were our own cooking show.  After all the prep work was done, we watched 1/2 an episode of Nigella Express together which he rather enjoyed!  This is what my kitchen looked like after we were done.

Sunday morning we took things nice and slow.  The boys continued some art projects from the day before and spiffied up a birthday card for Uncle.  The smallish table we had for them is too crowded.  A few months ago we bought another one but never got around to putting it together.  So C got to work and the boys helped of course, getting out their toolbox, finding the right screwdrivers and directing C this way and that.  They love the increased elbow room with the new table and the old one is now used to hold the play stove which has been moved into a nook in the dining room.  The next step is to cover the tabletop with some oilcloth to add some color.  I'll take some pictures when the area is done.  I'm contemplating whether to bring their other play kitchen downstairs to join the fun.
