Dumbarton Oaks
I woke up this morning with DD groggily asking me "why does the weekend go so fast?" Good question little man. The Sunday blues are for real right now. My best coping mechanism is to reminisce about the weekend.
This Saturday I was looking for inspiration on what was an overcast day. It drizzled in the morning when we left for ice skating but it looked like we would be able to sneak in some outdoor time if we played things right. For the first time in a long time, we went to Dumbarton Oaks. We've been before but never to stroll through the entirety of the gardens. Even today I'm not sure that we saw it all.
The gardens are perfect exploring for BB and DD. It's all little paths winding here and there with greenery every where you look. We saw fountains, ponds, and even a swimming pool. Because of the season, we were one of only a handful of visitors which was just fine with me.
If you go, definitely make time to visit the museum. The most recent wing is stunning from the outside, and if you see it, you will not be surprised that is designed by none other than Philip Johnson. It was added to the existing buildings in 1963.
On the way home, we made a stop at one of our new restaurants in our rotation to pick up take out for dinner. Perfect!
