Magna-Tiles, Fried Chicken + Donuts
MLK Day was super cold. The meteorologists are all busy predicting D.C.'s first major snow later this week. Meanwhile, we had a blustery first snowfall of the year on Sunday. Nothing stuck but it got the boys excited and they are chalking it up to our snow decorations.
On Monday, I think we all wanted to nest but we needed food. So after a morning of play with an old standby - Magna-Tiles, we drove out to Falls Church in search of fried chicken and doughnuts at Astro. The place is tiny, really a takeout joint only. The boys had the fried chicken while C and I tried their fried chicken sandwiches. Usually fried chicken devotees, the boys were "meh." The sandwiches are better than the chicken. The doughnuts are too heavy. The verdict after talking to the boys? We probably won't be going back.
In the background, I've been hitting one of items on our Winter List hard - "plan a trip." I've been planning a few. In fact, we now are set for Spring Break and we're halfway there for a trip in the Fall too. Summer has yet to be settled but that will be soon enough. Our big trip to Taipei showed me that the boys are at the age now where they'll remember these vacations, the things we saw and did. These are the years to travel with them. At the height of my nesting heading into Christmas, I made a shopping list of all the things we still needed for the house. I was close to pulling the trigger on a majority of the items - a big splurge for us - but started thinking about travel again. Buy experiences.
