A Day of Art

When I asked BB and DD what they wanted to do on Memorial Day Monday, they said they wanted to do art projects.  DD asked to use the "art supplies" we purchased last week (we raided a few of the Targets for their Todd Oldham line of Kid Made Modern collection).  To get inspired, we went to the Suprasensorial: Experiments in Light, Color, and Space at the Hirshhorn.  If your kid likes art, Suprasensorial is not to be missed.  BB and DD were so enthusiastic about the exhibition that they inspired me.  This type of modern art is great for kids - it's simple and straightforward, and of course, interactive.  We ran through the exhibition several times before heading off to the other galleries.  BB admired much of the Willem de Kooning paintings. After seeing everything we wanted to see upstairs, we headed to the small but wonderful gift shop downstairs.   I found at least two gifts for myself and several books.  The boys found some windup toys (these by Kikkerland) and I found a great birthday shirt for BB.

We can never resist the opportunity to sit in the shade of the incredible Hirshhorn building and it was made even better by the Ai WeiWei: Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads exhibit.  It was befitting since it's birthday mania at our house.  BB is turning 6 tomorrow.  Cookies in school today, then a birthday adventure tomorrow, followed up by a family party at home.
