I've been dreaming about a quick getaway lately. A long drive to upstate New York or somewhere like that to experience the turning leaves would be so welcome. But the work week leaves me sapped by the weekend such that planning, let alone executing on this has been near impossible. The internet tells me we've missed our chance going north but that local colors will be at their red and gold peak this weekend. Did you know that the intensity of color on a leaf has to do with the amount of sugar it has? Doesn't that sound delicious?
This past weekend we tried to avoid the obvious places to enjoy a nice autumn day by heading over to Long Branch. This is a perennial favorite of ours. It was a good choice - very few people and lots of big trees. This weekend we will probably stay close again but risk going to something popular (and crowded).
