Rainy Weekends Aren't Always a Bad Thing

It's true that if we had a choice, we would have chosen a sunny day or a snowstorm over the drenching rains we got over the weekend.  The forced us to scrap our usual routine of an outdoor hike.  We let DD decide and he chose to visit the Hirschhorn, a great choice since it has been a long time since our last visit.

Contemporary art, whether you're a fan or not, is usually a hit with our boys. The large scale, often interesting subject matter, and interactive nature of some of the exhibits always makes for a fun time. Currently on view is Ann Hamilton's, at hand.  The exhibit features a room littered with sheets of white paper that descend from machines in the ceiling.  The exhibit speaks to "the decline of manual labor in the wake of technological innovation," which is a topic on everyone's mind lately.  It was neat to touch the paper and move it around, thus changing the sculpture/exhibit.
Since our last visit Dolcezza has taken up permanent residence in the newly-designed lobby.  I had promised gelato but was told there wouldn't be any until this summer.  Boo on them for advertising gelato on the sign outside.  But the kids were good sports and we got our desserts elsewhere.

Speaking of sweets, Sunday morning visited Lavande Patisserie once again.  I was craving some tasty baked goods and Lavande hit the spot with delicious curry puffs, pain au chocolat, and croissants with pistachio, raspberry, peach, and almond filling.

The rainy weekend made me think about alternatives to our usual activities and errands, and that was a good thing.
