We Went for a Walk
If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know that
Huntley Meadows is one of our favorite places to explore. We’ve visited there all seasons to enjoy the changing
landscape and wildlife.
This weekend we
had the joy of exceptionally warm weather so we headed out on the long
drive. It was jarring to be wearing
shorts while looking taking in a winter view – everything brown and the trees
bare when the air felt as though there should be green all around. There was a storm coming and the wind and
clouds made our walk through the forest and on the boardwalk even more
enjoyable.
As we walked, I reminded the boys of the times we’d been
here – either the 3 of us, or all 4 of us.
That in those earlier days, I ended up carrying at least DD on the way
back to the car. They both giggled at
the thought of this. I really miss those
days. I had Fridays off and would pack
up a picnic and diapers and visit far flung places for fun. During the times they were a baby and a toddler,
and then later a toddler and a preschooler, were the some of the best times for
me as a mother. We had so much fun
finding new places to explore. And it
set the foundation of our family rhythms for the future.
