China: Through the Looking Glass

I promised a write up of the life-changing exhibit at the Met last month - China: Through the Looking Glass.  It was the most moving exhibit I have ever seen.  Through a stroke of luck, our trip to NYC was the last weekend of the China exhibit.  It was crowded and the Met extended its hours to midnight to accommodate everyone.

The exhibit was visually breathtaking.  The curator got artistic direction from none other than Wong Kar Wai and it showed.  Ancient Chinese costumes, clothing, and artifacts were placed counterpoint to their modern fashion interpretations.  Interspersed among the fashion and art were clips of some of the best examples of Chinese cinema.  There was so much energy, exuberance, beauty, pride, and history, all put together beautifully.  The inspiration has stuck with me and I'm so grateful that we all got to experience it.
