Toronto - the Next Few Days
Over the next few days we got out to enjoy the beautiful weather - the weather we have yet to experience this Summer in D.C. Skies were sunny and temperatures were a balmy 75-82 all day, every day! We headed down to the waterfront to explore the downtown are and entertainment district on foot. In the evening, we popped over to the Annex to check out the Loblaws I mentioned the other day and then stumbled across a ramen place. It's hard to get a bad meal in Toronto. Now that I think about it, we ate a lot of Asian food. I think when visiting a place with an Asian population larger than we're used to, we tend to gravitate towards the food offerings they have. Toronto has a large Asian population and lots of traditional and modern Asian cuisine as a result.
To get in touch with our Chinese heritage, we walked to the Royal Ontario Museum - a real gem. The architecture is that stark mix of old and new, which BB said was too jarring. ROM is everything our family could want under one roof - Chinese artifacts and art, dinosaur bones, gems, and other artwork. Remember the boys new found interest in Dale Chihuly? Well, ROM was having a special Chihuly exhibit. While I usually think Chihuly work is most definitely beautiful and unique, it's also a bit played out. But at the end of the exhibit, there was a large collection of his Navajo-inspired blankets and glass vessels. These were stunning and so interesting.
C and I could have stayed longer as there was much more to see, but the boys were getting restless. It was time to feed and water them. After lunch and some downtime, we did find a nice urban park right around the block where the boys climbed large boulders while C and I enjoyed our coffee and people watched. Another observation we made - people in Toronto love exotic cars.
I mentioned that the food scene in Toronto is great, especially the ethnic food places. While browsing websites, I found a recommendation for Banh Mi Boys, which had Vietnamese banh mis but also baos of all sorts. We made a special trip and it did not disappoint. I miss it already.
