Toronto - the First Few Days
Our days in Toronto were kind of a blur. Unlike most of our trips, each of us was sick at various stages. I embarked on our journey sick so the first several days all meld together for me. I remember starting off taking a long walk through our neighborhood. Yorkville is a neighborhood of high end shopping and restaurants and cafes. Everything was walkable. The subway is easy to use as are the city uses and streetcars. Taxis and Uber are plentiful. Plus we had our own car and parking so transportation was never an issue.
Some of the highlights right near our apartment was the crepes restaurant right downstairs - so, so good and convenient. There was a Chinese bistro serving Shanghainese dim sum - comfort food. Across the street was a small cafe that served lemonade and affogatos daily! And around the corner was an ice cream store that made the most delicious raspberry and mango sorbet, according to BB and DD. We went there everyday, and one day twice. We also lived near a Whole Foods (photo above) which I was excited about until we found a Loblaws within driving distance. OMG - why can't we have Loblaws in the U.S,? The best grocery store ever. There was also a wonderful little grocer called Bloor Street Market around the corner that was terrific. In that same mall was our favorite Canadian bookstore, Indigo. After I finally recovered my self several days later, DD had an accident (more on that later) and then the next day, C fell ill. It was one calamity after the next but somehow we still fit a lot in and had our fun, albeit with a much more subdued tempo than we're used to. One night we went to see a movie, Kubo and the Two Strings, something we don't usually do while on vacation. If you haven't seen it, don't wait. It was a work of art and worth seeing in 3D (I'm usually not a fan). Perhaps the illnesses and injury were blessings really and just what our family needed. C and I napped every single day we were there!
