Goodbye Summer + A Trip to the Boardwalk
Summer is over. As I type this, I still struggle to figure out where all the time went. As though it knew that this was end, Summer is trying to hang on with hot temperatures and thunderstorms. I had made plans to visit a museum on Saturday, but DD wanted to hike a "boardwalk." He insisted. So all of our indoor plans switched to outdoor plans. We went back to one of our perennial favorites - Huntley Meadows.
I looked through the archives, and although we visit the Meadows all year round, this was the first time we did it in the height of Summer. Everything was completely overgrown and the marshes were drier than we're used to. The walk through the forest leading to the boardwalk was still very comfortable, despite the heat. On this visit, we saw numerous turtles (including a huge one), tadpoles, a water snake, and several hawks.
Towards the end, the boys started complaining about empty stomachs so we knew it was time to go. A runner passed us by on the trail, shirtless. DD decided he would go shirtless too for the rest of the way.
