A Saturday in Winter

On Saturday we went to karate class in the morning where the boys got silly with their friends in between kicks and punches.  We usually eat lunch out and one of our favorite spots is the cafe at the National Gallery of Art East Building.  They have a good roast chicken that the boys like and a nice variety for C and I to choose from.  Recently, they've also started stocking the cafe with paper and crayons, a hit in our family.  As a bonus, today we ran into an old school friend of BB's.  My other reason for taking the boys there was to sign up for the Stories in Art Winter Series.  On Saturday, it was an introduction to Picasso and Cubism.  The docent read When Pigasso Met Mootisse, a book we own (and recommend!) and then talked to the kids about Cubism and the relationship between Picasso and Matisse.  The program ended with an art activity - super fun!

This may be a typical winter activity for most, but not for us.  Our standard would have been to take the boys for a nature hike after lunch.  The temperature was in the high 30s so it was comfortable enough.  The next Stories in Art program is in a month, so we we have plenty of time to get outdoors before then.
