Ch-ch-changes

Every month or so my dad measures BB's height.  He marks the wall with a pencil and then slaps a label on there with the day's date.  He hasn't measured BB in a long time because he was out of the country, but last week he got back into the routine and BB had grown considerably.  It was hard for me to believe how much he had shot up but when I really think about it, I know it's true.  Old jeans are too short (although never too tight!) and new jeans fit just right.  Looking back at photos just from a year ago tells me it's true as well.  He's lost even more fat in his cheeks.  I'm seeing even more of his particular way of moving his body, his long periods of focus, the insight in his questions, and his failure to nap.

BB still naps even though he is 4 1/2.  Up until recently he's naturally needed a nap.  Sure there were days here and there that we would make him skip it for a party or a play, but by dinner time he would be a little hyper, manic.  But very recently he's been having problems falling asleep in the afternoon no matter how early he wakes up in the morning and no matter how late he falls asleep at night.  Without a nap he would only be getting about 9 hours of sleep.

Why is this an issue?  Well, of course it's nice to have both boys sleeping at the same time during the day.  It's a chance to get a lot of things done around the house.  It also means during the work week when we aren't with the boys, BB is still energetic when we get home and we have more time to spend with him in the evening with a late bedtime.  And when it doesn't work out, like this past Friday, it means BB wakes DD up after 45 minutes and they both are exhausted by the end of the day.  Ugh.
