Happy Presidents Day
To celebrate the holiday, I thought about taking the kids to Mount Vernon, home of our first President. But somehow the idea of being closer to the water won out and it was off to National Harbor. Our only other time there was in the evening for the Gaylord's Christmas show so we didn't see any of the harbor itself. I wanted to go back and walk the waterfront, enjoy the weather, and let my boys run.
We had a ball. DD fell asleep in the car on the way there, so we let him sleep a bit and me and BB went down to the rocky beach for a walk. He told me that he loved this place and wanted to come everyday! He stepped in puddles, looked for treasured rocks and shells, and touched driftwood. We slowly made our way back to the path and then woke DD up. After that, both boys were off and running down the multiple piers, to the sandy area where the Awakening statue is now located, and along the waterfront path. We made a special stop into the Peeps store (a perfect destination for Easter). C and I scoped out a few restaurants and shops we might want to visit for date night. It was a perfect family outing for the last day of our long weekend.
