A Date With BB: Joan Miro
I mentioned that on Saturday we had a playdate and dinner with friends. As it turns out, they were one of the few friends we have that didn't lose their power in the storm. Lucky. On Sunday, we didn't have much of an agenda since our swim teacher was on vacation and so were my parents. DD wanted to go swimming again, while BB wanted to see the Joan Miro exhibit at the National Gallery. These rare occasions where C and I each take one of the boys are times that I really look forward to. Each child has our full attention and there is a lot more conversation that goes on.
BB wanted to see Miro's exhibit since learning about it back in May. We went through the entire collection (no photos allowed so you'll have to go see it for yourself) and then went to see the biographical film. I was skeptical that the film would interest BB but he loved it! We had a snack in the cafe and then I let BB pick out a Miro book at the awesome gift shop. We also stumbled upon a film about the Christos and their Umbrella project (remember that?) Again, BB loved it and afterwards made a very insightful comment - "everybody had to do what the artist said, but the artist didn't have to do anything." Watch the film and you'll understand.
I have been wanting to do more of these one-on-one dates with the boys. We have a couple things planned for the summer but I'll need to work these into our routine.
