Fruit Picking + Public Transit + National Arboretum

A hurricane has the east coast bracing for its arrival but us more inland folk are enjoying an incredible start to the Labor Day weekend.  Low humidities and low temperatures gives us the opportunity to spend a lot more time out of doors.  Our first activity was fruit picking at a local farm.  The boys were champs - picking endless apples, white peaches and tomatoes.  We even got a few pepppers.  Then it was a snack break and home for lunch.

In the afternoon, we decided to have fun with public transit.  The boys love to take trains but we really have not taken any buses so, feeling adventurous, we hopped on a few to get down to the National Mall to run around.  After several rides on the carousel (we shut it down!) we headed home for a quick dinner and a long bath.

C had the great idea of heading over to the National Arboretum this morning.  Another gorgeous weather day while we visited the Chinese and Japanese pavilions, ran through the wildflowers, and visited a vegetable garden.  We made friends with koi, butterflies, dogs and one caterpillar.  If I had planned better, we could have had a picnic lunch.  I always forget how lovely it is there at the Arboretum.  For a moment, it makes me believe I can take care of bonsai tree.
