Day Trip to the Beach

Since they were babies, the boys and I have had a tradition of going on far-flung day trips whenever C is busy or away.  In the early days it was a test of my abilities as a mom to be able to manage a baby and toddler on a long drive, a long hike, with supplies strapped on my back.  These days these getaways are much easier; BB and DD are responsible and helpful.

C was away running a race this weekend and the weather was warming up so of course the three of us went to the beach.  We headed back to one of our favorite local spots, Flag Ponds Nature Park, after their martial arts class.  A few towels and a change of clothing, a small cooler of snacks and drinks, and a few books for the long drive out is all we needed.

It was early afternoon when we arrived.  The beach closes at 5:30 and we closed the place down!  The setting sun was too beautiful to miss. As we made the 1/2 mile hike back to the car, I told BB and DD that we were going to get steak for dinner at Outback.  There were cheers and hugs!  During dinner we talked about our wonderful day and they told me that it felt like we were on a big vacation.  That absolutely made my day!
