Books and Technology

Here and there I get bursts of energy to go through the boys' toys, books and art supplies. I weed out what they've outgrown and set those aside for donation. Right now we have an entire box of almost new board books that I'm sad to give away, but it's time. Since my sons were born, technology has leaped forward with respect to personal devices. The advent of the iPod and MP3 players made us all stop buying CDs. The last CD we bought was one of the They Might Be Giants albums to replace the damaged one we had. And I can say I don't miss flipping through or organizing CDs one bit.

On the other hand, we still buy books for the boys. Lots and lots of books. We do not buy iBooks for the boys. Although I like the idea of not having CD cases all over the house, I like books and flipping through them, stacking and organizing them. It seems strange to have a home devoid of books. We often resort to ordering books from Amazon, but our favorite is to browse an independent bookstore and come away with some treasures. And we did just that at our school's book fair this weekend. The boys bought books for each of their classrooms as well as found stacks for themselves.
