From Waikiki to The Big Island

On our fourth day after hanging out on Waikiki Beach, we left Oahu for the Big Island.  When deciding on Hawaii, what we wanted to see was all kinds of big nature and a volcano.  From everything I read, the Big Island is the most biodiverse and has much to offer so off we went.

The Big Island
If you know nothing about the Big Island, you at least know that it's big.  To see it, you really need to stay on both the east coast and west coast.  We rented an incredible modern house on the east coast that I had seen in Dwell years ago.  From there Volcanoes National Park is accessible as are many sights.  It was Easter Sunday when we flew in so many of the shops were closed.  We picked up a few groceries along the way and headed to the house.

I will never forget that drive along the Hamakua coast - the views were stunning and so different from what we just saw in Oahu.  Volcanic rock covered the landscape.  The Big Island definitely feels different from Oahu.  There is a quiet there and it set the tone for the multiple days ahead.
