To the Library We Go

Recently we drove by the D.C. library in Shaw - a beautiful example of modern architecture both inside and out.  The building, designed by Davis Brody Bond, is worth a visit in and of itself.  The fact that you can borrow books and DVDs there is the cherry on top.  We first tried a visit to the Shaw Library on President's Day but it was closed.  We ventured back again last night when I snapped a few photos on my iPhone.
Remember our last visit to the Tenleytown library.  In fact, if you didn't know, D.C. has been on a renovation tear with respect to its libraries.  Here is a link to a tour of the city's most recent 9 newly renovated libraries. I can't wait to take an architectural tour of the other 7.  And word is the West End library (our neighborhood library) is up next for a total renovation that will result in a mixed use building.  Cool.

If I'm any indication, good architecture has the power to draw people in, and in many of the neighborhoods in that 9 library tour, a welcoming library is a much needed refuge for young people.
