Porch Hangs (and More)
It feels like a holiday weekend but it's really more of an awkward Tuesday Fourth of July that is coming our way. We're busy this weekend - we finally started swim team and the boys' first A meet is this Saturday. Also on Saturday BB has a birthday party to attend. In between, we have some other plans but I'm hoping to chill in our screened porch.
The most unused room in the house, in fact, is our screened porch. It's a great 3-season space that was a big draw for us when we were house hunting. C cleaned it out a few weekends ago, we ordered new furniture and accessories and opened it up for the summer! We still have a few accessories to buy and we need to hang the string lights I bought. Also, we had been grappling with whether to buy a dining table/chairs for the space, which we used to have but we've since moved to our patio, or keep it a lounge space and perhaps use a coffee table for dining. There are differing opinions in the house.
But right before we went on vacation (more on that soon!), I found a couple of tables I love for this space and the matter settled itself. That stone table looks perfect in the space and the rugs and pillows make it comfortable to sit around it if you are eating a casual meal. We've had a couple of gorgeous weather nights so far that made spending time together in the porch heavenly.
I did want to take a deeper dive to talk about home life beyond just decor and furniture. As a parent, I've noticed over the years that that my kids respond in different way to different spaces as all people do. The screened porch has a laid back vibe, and in the evening, we keep the lighting level low with candles. That creates an atmosphere where my boys love to unwind and talk about their day, come in for snuggles, and even broach stressful topics.
