The Baby in the House Turns 9!
Last weekend kicked off the birthday season in our house! DD turned 9 on Friday! Mayfair was held on his birthday so we headed out for some fun. First stop of course was the shave ice truck - huge cones for everyone. Afterwards, we headed out for our new family tradition of taking each of the boys out for a fancy birthday dinner. To celebrate in red meat-style, we dined at Del Frisco's, where our waiter and the rest of the wait staff marveled at how much BB and DD can eat. We are not a kids' meal kind of family.
C had to work on much of Saturday so the three of us went to the farmers market in search of flowers and strawberries. The dahlias were in full bloom and we filled our bag with juicy strawberries and a blueberry pie. I let DD guide us since it was his birthday. He asked to go to Georgetown(!) to shop around and visit the waterfront, which we did. Then we hit up a toy store (for one more birthday present) before heading home.
These birthdays really take me by surprise every year. There are times where DD is noticeably bigger, more mature, or different in some way than the night before when he went to bed. He is using very adult turns of phrases, and it's very cute. He's been pushing boundaries to stay up and read a little bit later each night and pushing to spend his own money without our approval. He likes to sign our restaurant checks, help plan trips, assist me with shopping and menu planning, and budgets his purchases with great detail. This boy is the spark in our family and we love him so! Happy Birthday, DD!
