Carderock, Maryland
We live just a few minutes from Carderock, a popular recreation area for rock climbers. The weekend warmed up nicely compared to the frigid temperatures of this past week, so after swimming and lunch, we headed there for a family hike. Actually, I had planned a day in the city to visit some museums and visit our old neighborhood afterwards. DD wanted to do be "in the woods" he said so a quick change in plans (although they were wearing the wrong shoes).
As with any family hike we take, if there is water, the boys want to be near it. The river was very low so lots of little "islands" poked their heads out, beckoning. We made a steep (muddy) descent down to the Potomac and were rewarded with smooth river rocks and golden sunshine. The boys threw rocks and sticks for hours. I finally called it when the sun started setting over the tops of the trees. I wonder how many of these golden days are left before the grey of winter sets in.
