Eaten Alive
On a whim, I decided to have a picnic dinner a few nights ago. I packed a blanket and met C at the new Shake Shack to pick up our favorite burgers and fries. We found a nice grassy spot across from the boys' preschool, kicked off our shoes and ate our food. We even ran into some friends. All was going so well until they came. Mosquitoes. It was just a few here and there at first. Then they smelled blood and swarmed us. BB and I got the worst of it.
We had no choice but to pack up and bring the picnic indoors. I love summer and summer activities but dang it, it's hard to enjoy the simplest of things sometimes. That night before bed we read Summer by Alice Low and we talked about how everyone's picnic was interrupted by insects.
