Night Owls

Happy New Year!  Christmas and Winter break were hampered by illness.  Both C and I, and then DD, fell ill one after the other, and stayed that way for the entirety of Winter break.  We had planned a vacation to go skiing - the first time we were traveling over Christmas in a long time - but that had to be scrapped. I spent much of the break stressed and anxious about recovering fast enough to still salvage the holidays and feeling guilty that we didn't get to do even a small fraction of what we had planned.

On the first day of the new year, we night owls were feeling somewhat cooped up.  The weather was mild all day and we had planned around our traditional first day of the year family hike when BB started not feeling well.  After napping the entire afternoon away, it was too late and we were all left in a funk. The only thing left to do besides watch a movie (we've already seen Sing and Rogue 1) was go see holiday lights again.  We found one that was new to us and open and headed out for the 40 minute drive - already past bedtime.  The drive-through lights were great.  As usual, BB and DD stood up through the sunroof as we meandered through the path.  As we approached the end, we saw more lights and then parked cars.  It was a mini amusement park complete with bonfire, Santa, rides, and games!  What a treat for us had been cooped up from illness.  We quickly bought tickets and had our fun until we shut the place down at 10:30!  Oh and beyond the normal amusement park rides, the boys took a ride on a giant, gentle camel.  Yes, you read that right!
