Books Lately

While on vacation, we stop in whatever local book stores we can find and dig around.  In Kailua we found this wonderful well-stocked shop.  All of us having been finding lots of books to pique our interest lately.  This is what we've been reading:

* Humphrey series by Betty G. Birney.  We started with the first three books in the box set and now DD is on the last book, book 12.  He loves reading the adventures of Humphrey and DD's been eagerly anticipating each next book.

* Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett.  BB is just about finished with it now.  I liked that it marries a adventure with art.  Each of the books in the series focuses on an artist.  So far, BB says he has enjoyed the writing.  The next book in the trilogy is about Frank Lloyd Wright and the third one is about Calder.

* The 52-Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths.  DD could not wait for this newest book to be published.  It was sold out in the book store we visited in Oahu, but once we got our hands on it back home, he finished it in one sitting.

* Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin.  BB first read this book and couldn't stop talking about it.  He recommended it to DD who is now reading it.  It's a fantastic read and we all recommend it to our Chinese American friends.

* Hawaii by James Michener.  I, of course, purchased Michener's Hawaii, my latest obsession.  His writing style while wordy is really fun to read.

The weekend weather doesn't look great but I'm looking forward to it after a rather busy week.  It starts with date night tonight!
