Mother Duck Leads

One of the things we'll miss so about our current neighborhood is our after dinner walks.  We walk in the sunshine, the cold, and the pouring rain.  Moving to the suburbs makes us nervous - where will we walk to?  What is there to see?  What are we going to do?!!?!

A few weeks ago while on a family walk to the bookstore, we came upon a Mother Duck and her six ducklings in the middle of Dupont Circle trying to cross near Bar Dupont.  How the family ended up at Dupont Circle I do not know but it was incredible to see this Mother Duck surrounded by large humans and speeding cars leading her babies to safety.  It was clear that they had made a wrong turn somewhere but she didn't give up.  She led her baby ducklings with purpose and confidence.  Parenting definitely presents plenty of moments like this, when you yourself aren't sure what the right answer is but you must move forward and decide.
