TMBG at the 9:30 Club

How was your Thanksgiving?  We had a wonderful long weekend, full of activity, none of which advanced me any in the holiday shopping department but oh well.  Thanks to Grandma, we had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with a delicious and juicy bird.  On Friday we took an impromptu trip to the U.S. Botanical Garden to see the holiday train display, a must if you've got young children who like trains.  But the most exciting part of the Thanksgiving break came on Saturday. BB's (and DD) favorite rock band, They Might Be Giants, played the 9:30 Club Saturday with a special family show.

Like a true fan, he and C stood outside around the block on V street for an hour before doors opened to the sold out event.  The report I received from C was that BB rocked out to his favorite songs and stayed for all the encores.  He even got a t-shirt.  After a rockin' concert we all commuted to the exburbs to my cousin's for a holiday get together and then rushed back home for bedtime.  Sunday was are usual grandparents day.  We took some nice walks in the 65+ degree DC weather and the boys played at the playground with the grandparents.  While they napped, C and I took a trip to Wegmans, our favorite, in Fair Oaks and did grocery shopping for the week.  We hauled our stash back in time to join everyone for a quick dinner, and then off to another holiday event in the evening -- the Holiday Lights show at Brookside Gardens.  Have you been?  It's a fantastic walk along the garden path with thousands of lights.  BB and DD's favorite was a lighted treehouse that they climbed into.  Very cute.

We're adding this to our holiday repertoire along with the Seneca Creek Winter Lights show we do annually.  If any of the pictures come out I'll post them here next time.  C and I even sneaked in a quiet moment at the coffee shop for croissants, chocolate doughnuts and hot coffees on Sunday.  Mmmm.

P.S. At some point during the long weekend, we also took a trip to the Hirshhorn Museum and had some fun looking at the sculptures and large modern paintings.  DD was extremely fond of the paintings, pointing, gesticulating and grunting wildly.
