Study Area Dilemmas

Having children necessarily means that few rooms in your home can stay exactly as they are for long. When we moved in 3 years ago (!), we bought a desk for the office/den so that C and I could work from home occasionally. Starting a different school we realized meant homework for the first time, so we purchased these modern secretaries when we did an office refresh.  They've been working but recently, BB asked to have a separate homework area - away from the computer.

I had envisioned BB and DD doing their homework at our big dining room table, which is what all kids seem to do these days.  But that is in the middle of all the action in our home so we've mapped out a new plan.  Their computers are now on a shared desk.  We covered a long bench with two sheepskins for coziness and used it as seating.  This is probably a temporary set up until we can find the right furniture for this area.

We decided that the secretaries will go into their bedroom.  The upstairs is a complete quiet zone in the evenings, making it the perfect place to concentrate.  We're making that final move this weekend and we'll see how it works.

Although it's a lot of reorganizing, I have come to really embrace the fact that having children brings constant change in one's life in all ways, including space planning!
