DC Tourist Season
On a gloomy Saturday we visited the National Museum of the American Indian to check out the E Mau Ke Ea: The Sovereign Hawaiian Nation. I wanted to let the kids understand a little of the history of Hawaii and the issue of sovereignty. There was a lot of good information in the exhibit, but as is the case with this particular museum, there are rarely any actual artifacts to look at.
We explored all four floors of the museum and did find some impressive contemporary artworks.
Even though the museum is short on art and artifact, the architecture is stunning and never gets old. We like to return just to experience it.
Did I mention it was crowded? While we drove down Independence searching for parking, we saw throngs of tourists at every intersection braving the rain. Their was a line wrapped around the Air and Space museum. Spring break is on and its cherry blossom season so DC gets hammered with tourists during this time of year. Had the weather cooperated, the crowds probably would have been unbearable.
Before heading home, we went to Capitol Hill to visit the Pretzel Bakery, one of our favorite snacks in town.
