Hello Again, NYC
It's already mid-week and off on a business trip, but I'm still thinking about our long weekend in NYC. The last time we visited was sweet, but too short. The weather this time again was fantastic which allowed us to cover lots of territory without difficulty. Our main reason for the NYC trip was to visit The Met. Both BB and DD have strong interests in Ancient Egypt and suits of armor. What better place to see that than The Met? Of course, C and I were there to catch China: Through the Looking Glass, our last chance before it closed.
First thing after breakfast, we took the boys to Central Park for a little playground action before going to the museum. We had purchased tickets online in advance so entry into The Met was a breeze. The Egyptian collection was a huge hit as was the arms and armor. The China exhibit was the most inspiring display of art I had ever seen. Words cannot describe it but I will try in a separate post with the aid of a few photos.
We spent the rest of the day hitting up the LEGO store at Rockefeller Center, grabbing snacks, and shopping our way through the neighborhoods.
The next day we returned to Brooklyn Bridge Park, walkable from my brother's apartment. Lots of playground action plus an ice cream vendor with vegan options means a happy family. From there we visited Chinatown, SoHo, NoHo and the Bowery. We hit all the retail on my list surprisingly without any complaints from the boys. That evening we drove out to Hoboken to meet up with friends and enjoyed more stunning views of Manhattan.
For the last several years, we've spent the Labor Day weekend close to home. This year it just seemed like we were all wanting an adventure. Instead of being hectic, our quick trip was invigorating. Inspiring.
