We're Back
Our first day at the beach was glorious. The weather had calmed after the hurricane passed - warm air and warm water. The boys couldn't even wait to change into their bathing suits before hitting the beach so I headed down with them while C unpacked the car. In the evening the temperature was cool and comfortable and we took a stroll downtown to get sugary treats and toys.
Looking at these photos makes me feel like this is a trip we took months, not days, ago. We got home late Tuesday night from my father-in-law's funeral, all 4 of us exhausted in every way imaginable. The weather in Boston was rainy and cold and we returned to more rain in cooler weather here in D.C. as well, worlds apart from our time at Bethany. The house is a mess from all our travels and the boys started their first day of school on Wednesday without much fanfare unfortunately. I started my new job on Wednesday as well.
If you're wondering how the boys did at the service, they did beautifully. No fussing from either of them on either day. They amaze me. BB is a sensitive child and knew that something important was happening, that we were saying goodbye to his YY. He clung to C during much of the service like he was supporting his father. After the funeral, DD said something that was heartbreaking. DD asked where his YY was and he said he was sad because he wanted YY to hug him.
