A Night Out at the Freer/Sackler
The reopening of the Freer/Sackler Galleries of the Smithsonian was on my calendar for awhile. Beginning Saturday evening, there were events inside and outside the museum. When we arrived, the event as packed and there were lines for everything. Outdoor tents were set up to simulate a Taipei "night market" featuring some cultural activities and also some of the DC area's hottest Asian food chefs and restaurants including Tiger Fork and People's Bao. Sadly, the lines were too long for the kids so we walked around enjoying the music, gardens, and lights and waited for what we really came for, the light show.
The highlight for us was a light show projection on to the face of the Freer/Sackler building itself. If you've never seen anything like this in person, it is really gorgeous. The kids were as mesmerized as we were. You can see some photos above but even video can't do it justice. After it was over, we were famished and headed over to our favorite Shake Shack in our old neighborhood for dinner. BB and DD enjoyed being out past their bedtime with the adults! We'll be back on another day to visit the renovated galleries.
