More Days on the Big Island
The Pahoa coast near the house we rented is full of wild beauty. It offers the kind of view and feeling that you cannot capture in a photograph no matter your skill level. To experience it is an affirmation of life. There is no artist like Mother Nature.
On this morning, we stayed close to home and took a short drive to a large group of geothermal tide pools. Like everything in Hawaii, it can be a little confusing to find at first but you know it when you see it. The tide pools were like soothing bath water and they were filled with marine life. You didn't have to look hard; in fact, you couldn't get away from the fish. At one point, I got out of the water to dry out on the lava rock and just took pictures of the fish from dry land. If you get to the Big Island, don't miss this!
After a few hours, everyone was hungry so we headed to Pahoa town for lunch and little browsing. Then back to the house for some reading, lounging, and art. We were resting up for an outing that evening. Looking back on our photos during our time on the East Side of the Big Island, I'm amazed by how adventurous our days were. One thing I always do when taking a trip, even a day trip, is to bring art supplies. It doesn't have to be anything fancy - a pad of good paper or sometimes a sketch notebook for each, some Color Appeel crayons (LOVE these), markers, or color pencils. That's all they need and they take up little room in a backpack. I didn't include this in my 15 Travel Tips post because this goes for any trip, big or small.
