A Great Saturday
Contrast the past weekend we had with the two before it. What a wonderful day we had on Saturday. Having nice weather has a lot to do with it but things were just falling into place. After a late wake up and almost being late for ice skating class, we changed into shorts and drove to the National Arboretum, a family favorite. I got the idea because the azaleas in our neighborhood are in full bloom so I figured a visit to the Lee Azalea Garden at the Arboretum would be well worth it.
No trip to the Arboretum is complete without a visit to the National Capitol Columns. BB and DD looked for tadpoles, climbed and generally frolicked away in the meadows. Then, looking for some drinks to quench our thirst, we came upon the Tiki Treats food truck which served Hawaiian shaved ice. Sitting in the hot sun eating strawberry shaved ice, the boys reminisced about all of our beach trips. BB wanted to know when our next trip was. They each had to finish every last bit before we wandered over to see the azaleas. We made our way to the secret pond to say hi to the frogs and fish before going on to admire the flowers. The boys were waylaid by a huge tree stump that they worked on further excavating.
Soon enough (maybe a little too soon) we had to go to drop off DD at a friend's birthday party. BB got to go pick out ice cream and popsicles while his brother was away. After the party, none of us wanted to go home so we went to Medium Rare for a steak frites dinner and then a trip to the bookstore before finally heading home for bed. We absolutely live for these weekends.
