Exploring the Southern Shore
On our third day while everyone slept-in, I took a walk around the property to check out the Sliding House from the outside. The angles are tricky. Depending on where your stand - your perspective - the house looks like its hurtling down the hillside, or that the house is slanted upward. There is only one other property higher up on the hill behind us and it's another MacKay-Lyons house. In fact, it is for sale for those of you who are interested. I thought it was occupied so I only stood at the edge of the driveway and snapped a quick photo.
Once the whole family was ready to venture out, we headed to the nearby town of Mahone Bay. We shopped a little and then ducked into a wonderful little cafe for brunch. After a bit more shopping and stopping to take in the beautiful view of the churches (the Churches of Mahone Bay), we made the drive to the Blue Rocks, a fishing village the likes of which I'd never seen. It was so quaint and lovely in the fog. It was amazing to see the all of the tiny little houses clinging to the rocky shore. After the longish drive, we were all excited to climb the (slippery) Blue Rocks and check out he views. Look closely and you'll see a pine tree amidst the rocks decorated like Christmas. We also came upon a little studio that had some wonderful paintings, lobster cages, shells, and buoys for sale. All on an honor system. I picked up a few things, dropped my money in the box, and left him a short note.
