Indoor Activities
It's cold and raining outside today; my least favorite type of weather day. BB has a cold (which means DD isn't far behind) so we decided to take it easy this morning. After some breakfast and cartoons, we baked cookies and then broke out the new Playdoh kit for even more fun.
This upcoming week is snack week. For those who aren't familiar, our preschool requires that parents bring in snack for the entire class for a week. This week is our week which required a trip to Costco to get large quantities of fruits and veggies, crackers and muffins. A Montessori education means the kids do as much for themselves as they can so preschoolers are responsible for washing and cutting and preparing snacks. We bring it in as-is. Pretty neat, huh? Next month is Chinese New Year and C and I are planning to go in to school to do a small presentation on what that means. We'll also make Chinese dumplings for the class to munch on.
Outside of school, we're having a Chinese New Year party at our house. I like the idea of keeping our Chinese heritage alive. Speaking of the New Year, I've got something up my sleeve! Yes, big changes for me in the career department that, if all things go according to plan, will mean something new for the new year. Details to come.
Also on line for February is Valentine's Day (this year the same day as Chinese New Year). I spotted these years ago at Pottery Barn Kids. You buckle these on the back of your kids' chairs and there is a slot in the top that allows you tuck Valentine's in. They're sold out at PBK, but luckily Grandma's recent retirement means time to hunt down items for me and acquire. We scored two this past week; the last two at the mall near Grandma. I've been in the process of collecting little goodies that have a fun Valentine's/Chinese New Year theme to them and will stuff their little chairbackers full of fun things to eat, read and do. This is a tradition I hope to keep every year until the boys are no longer interested.
