Fall and The Wharf DC
It's fall, baby! I'm still having a hard time letting go of our fabulous summer but the temperatures don't care about my feelings. All has been quiet here on the blog and I apologize about that. I haven't felt much like writing; instead I've been documenting our day-to-day via my Instagram posts and Instastories. But I do miss the exercise of putting together a post here, along with photos, to document what we've been doing lately.
The start of school so far has been busy but uneventful. Both kids seem to be happy with their teachers and doing well with their work. We've got our activities schedule down and our weekends have been appropriately filled with equal parts chores and fun. This weekend we will be enjoying the boys' violin recital - they will be performing a duet! Also some of us will be traveling while others will be having a relaxing weekend at home while putting on the final touches of BB's and DD's Halloween costumes.
Over the years, fall has felt more melancholy to me. The light can be so beautiful but also sad. The weeks in October seem to be so fleeting as the kids just wait for Halloween and then just like that, it's November.
A few weekends ago we headed downtown to have dinner at The Wharf DC. Everyone who lives in DC knows the dramatic changes the Southwest Waterfront has been going through. Brand new condos and apartments along with high-end restaurants, shops, hotels, and a new concert venue have all opened up. When I was growing up, the Southwest Waterfront was the called the Maine fish market and it was where all the fishing boats gathered to sell the freshest seafood you could get in the area. We used to venture down a few times a year to buy crabs, lobster, clams and fish. It was nothing like it is now, for better and for worse. Such are the effects of development and gentrification.
