Playing Tourists
We didn't have concrete plans for Saturday afternoon. Hunger for food and art led us to the museums. After that we were guided by BB's and DD's wishes - lunch at the National Gallery, three rides on the Mall merry-go-round, a stroll through the Sculpture Garden, a visit to the Hirshhorn, cutting through the Haupt Garden, snacks at the Smithsonian Castle, and then a short visit to the Air & Space. We spent some time at the Out of the Ordinary exhibit at the Hirshhorn, which captured the boys' attentions. They were curious about the oversized stick of butter by Robert Gober. I was intrigued by Christo's Green Storefront. If you haven't yet seen it, you should.
The city was mobbed with tourists making the pilgrimage for the cherry blossoms. It was fun to pretend to be on vacation visiting D.C. To see and do that much on the Mall - and all of it for free!
