Parenting

I am always hounded by the thought that the boys will never need me - or want me - as much as they do in these early years.  And nature made it that way for a reason.  As a parent, I can influence them so much with my actions (or inactions) and my words.  It becomes overwhelming, doesn't it?  Push them but let them be their own person.  Help them but let them make mistakes and fail.  Be involved but don't be a helicopter mom.  It's hard to know what the right answer is.

Whenever I feel overwhelmed like this, I look for the core principle, the one truth that underlies all my parenting efforts, hopes, and goals, and stick to that.  That truth is different for everyone so it doesn't matter what mine is, or if yours is different.
